Though he has already created a half man-half ape named Gomar, a mad doctor's experiments on female brain transplants have been failures. Why? "The brains come from totally uneducated women!" But the Doctor of Doom quickly zeroes in on "a stronger type of woman" in the form of gorgeous wrestling pals Gloria Venus and Golden Rubi, sending Gomar and his henchmen to abduct them. After Gloria throws acid in his face, the doc, disfigured and crazier than ever, puts Gomar's gorilla brain into the body of one of Gloria's galpals to create "Vendetta," a Superhuman Wrestling Woman whose goal is to kill Gloria in the ring! Plus, Gloria Venus (now renamed Loretta) and Golden Rubi are back to crack the heads of an Asian gang led by a Fu Manchu-like character known as "The Black Dragon," who's killing off archaeologists in hops of discovering the Treasure of the Aztecs. Entering a tomb and discovering the living remains of a mummified witch doctor who can also change himself into a spider and bat, it time for the main event: The Wrestling Women vs. the Aztec Mummy! ... Plus, Helen Hanley ignores warnings about The Witch's Mirror and is murdered by evil hubby Edward, who replaces her with Wife #2, the lovely Deborah. But Helen enjoys revenge in death when her ghost terrifies Deborah into going up in flames. With his new bride now looking like burnt toast, Edward attempts to make her beautiful again with the skin from stolen cadavers. The surgery almost works until he unknowingly gives Debbie his late wife's husband-hating hands Two wonderfully bizarre, cockeyed cult horrors from Mexico, best summed up by a stunned detective who exclaims, "My eyes see it but all my logic says it cannot be true!" ... Two dead mobsters help a psychotic cowboy named Tex kill Leon DeWilde, a video artist obsessed with "the fear of death ... Read more Features: Color Customer Reviews Incomprehensible, but fun One can't begin to describe ANGELS, a lensed in New York-oddity that is probably the most bizarre thing Harry Novak ever released. God is a dapper black man who needs to recruit angels into his depleting Heaven. As such, he intentionally sends out nun hit-ladies to run over people in an Art Deco-styled Bentley. Throw in two macho gangster types, a young Vince Schiavelli, a Robert Mapplethorpe-type photographer who likes to photograph dead things, a mime, a hysterical yenta and you get -- I don't know! You tell me! Shot in 1975, this type of counter-cultural nonsense had long since left neighborhood theaters. GETTING INTO HEAVEN is the disc's "square-up" reel, where we get Uschi Digart, and lots of her, to make up for the rather "chaste" quality of ANGELS. You'll want to get this disc for all the retro bonuses, trailers for hippie-flavored art and exploitation movies that nobody has ever heard of before! ... Something Weird List Price: Price: You Save: US$14.99 US$13.49 US$1.5 (10%) Average Customer Review: DVD (14 August, 2002) Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Description Description A boiling, bizarre tale of a mad love that crashes through the supernatural! When an electrical accident disfigures the face of Cronin Mitchell, he also acquires strange psychic powers. He promptly makes a bargain with a witch who will restore his looks if he will become her lover. However, though the world sees her as a sexy cutie named Ellen, Mitchell's new girlfriend is actually an ugly old crone. After expelling a ghost from a funeral home, Mitchell next tries to discover the identity of a small-town maniac. However, the feds have also asked karate-chopping playboy Alex Jordan to oversee the case, and Jordan schemes to have Ellen all to himself--but not before Mitchell boosts his ESP with LSD, and Jordan is attacked by killer bed sheets. Honest. Like the title promises, "Something Weird," another crackpot gem from director Herschell Gordon Lewis (She-Devils on Wheels), is one of the most bizarre and outrageous horror flicks ever made, and presented uncut and in widescreen for the first time since its theatrical release! Read more Features: Color Widescreen Customer Reviews The best line... After the accident: "He shouldn't have tried to be a hero, he's just an engineer!" Something Weird (1967) An electrical accident disfigures the face of Cronin Mitchell (played by Tony McCabe) after he falls from a power line. When he awakes, two doctors examine him and it is discover that along with the ugly looks, he also has strange extra sensory psychic powers. Later, the man with silly putty on his face makes a bargain with a witch who restores his looks if he will become her lover. Mitchell sees his new girl has an ugly old crone, while the rest of the world sees her as a sexy cutie named Ellen (played by Elizabeth Lee). Mitchell next tries to discover the identity of a small-town maniac. However, the feds have also asked karate-chopping playboy Alex Jordan (played by William Brooker) to oversee the case, and Jordan schemes to have the lovely looking witch all to himself ...but not before Mitchell boosts his ESP with LSD, and Jordan is attacked by bed sheets. What the hell do you expect with a title like this, ...a plot? The Commentary track on the DVD contains a quick introduction by the director, then follows Herschell Gordon Lewis' former partner David F. Friedman exposing the very interesting history of Something Weird Video, and Mike Vraney's ongoing search for lost film gems. Also included on this disc, is some LSD inspired stock footage from Mike's collection: Monsterama Nightmare from 'The Weird World of LSD (1967)', 'Psyched-Out Sing-along with the 4D Witch', and an 'LSD Psychedelic Freak Out'. These extra bonus bits make this disc interesting, and with all the footage this guy owns, I would love to see more of these additions on later releases. A WEAK H. G. LEWIS EXPERIENCE First thing,As a big fan of all the Herschell Gordon Lewis films I have found so far,I could barely wait to see this one,it sounded real interesting.Well...it is interesting, and funny. But it does bring a new meaning to the term "wooden indian acting"(and sometimes overacting). It's the story of a guy with ESP and his deal w/a witch to restore his beauty, and a psycho on the loose...ah what else? Oh yeah LSD.Anyway it's all a bit of a mess, but fans of this stuff expect that,it's just not as good as the Blood Trilogy or The Wizard Of Gore. And now to the rest of the DVD.Something Weird Video usually does a great job w/their H. G.Lewis special editions, but this time the whole thing is sunk by a LOUSY adio commentary where Lewis only speaks for about 10 minutes and is brushed aside so you can here the riveting and terribly recorded story of SW Video.A total bore. There is some pretty good old cheap short subjects about acid, but all and all,a letdown for only the most die hard fans. ... Treated miserably by her hag stepmother and two ugly stepsisters, Derella would love to go to Prince David's masked ball but doesn't have a thing to wear. Her oddball Fairy Godfather (One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest's Sydney Lassick) gives her a magic gown good only until midnight, and sure enough, at midnight Derella flees and leaves her brassiere dangling from the prince's hand. If that ain't wacky enough, this is also -- brace yourself -- a musical!
